Ever since their releases on Sofrito, Highlife and Heist Recordings the Swiss based DJ / production collective known as Alma Negra have been crafting infectious dance floor beats with a global reach. Their new four-track EP ‘Harambee’ is no exception to this rule! A proud presentation from all across the world comes together in perfect harmony thanks to these latin flavors that are so deeply rooted within them, hear live percussionists embrace maximum rhythms while using every part of their body alongside rich 808s.
The songs on this EP will make you want to get up and dance, whether it’s through Latin infused music with its roots in Cuba or afro-disco beats of the 80s.
The name “Harambee” means ‘let us all pull together.’ in Swahili. This tune has anthems like no other: they’re powered by brassy horn sections perfect for summertime parties, especially when played loud! You can’t go wrong here as each track has something different yet cohesive about them (even though we know there are plenty more gems waiting). From fast paced La Gozadera which takes us back into old times while sounding new.
The closing out of ‘Alma Negra – Harambee’ comes from Bruno “Patchworks” Hovarts’ Afro-disco focused project Voilaa. He takes hold of the original with both hands and takes it deeper, adding his Ghanaian Highlife style brass for an excellent EP that will have you ready to party anytime! Out 1st of July on Alma Negra Records.
