Yigal Roos, a Dutch electronic music producer and DJ who goes by his artist name of Ascension has joined forces with Fluid Funk for his first EP on the label. The EP “Gone EP” brings an immersive Chicago house sound that will have you feeling relaxed yet energized after just one listen!

Ascension – Gone.

The opening track on the new EP “Gone” starts off with a smooth shuffle and quickly evolves into something else. It’s an iridescent synthscape that crashes against the shoreline while muted elegance carries us away to somewhere more luxurious if not decadent in soundscapes of late night jazz clubs or beaches at dusk when you’re all alone but still want someone next to share your secrets.

Moody Waters Remix.

Remixer Moody Waters turned this tune into something entirely different, not just a more 4 to the floor sounding track that ‘s popular these days, but a deep and warm remix that invokes the original’s sensuality. It’s as if you can feel the artist’s presence in the music and it’s very alluring.

The music of Ascension is a seamless blend between Caribbean steel pans and Afro-futuristic pulsating music. It runs the gamut from hazy after ambiences to oceanside boogie vibes in one perfect montage, proving that they can make any mood feel at home with their velveteen sound design and Latin rhythms topped off by an eerily catchy tune like “The House Has Just Begun.”

The second track on Ascension – Gone EP is titled “Albert”

This one is a bit more playful with happy-go-lucky melodies, yet still has an air of mystery to it. The production quality is excellent as each sound is distinct and well placed, there’s a lot going on but it never feels overwhelming. This is a perfect example of House Music done right in my opinion.

The House Has Just Begun.

The last track on the EP, “The House Has Just Begun” brings us back down to earth with  a more soulful and introspective summer festival vibe. It’s a beautiful way to close out the EP and leave you wanting more.

Overall, I think this is a great debut EP from Ascension and I’m excited to see what he comes up with next! If you’re a fan of House Music, or just looking for something new to listen to, I highly recommend checking out “Gone EP” by Ascension on Fluid Funk.

The Gone EP is set for release on August 19th and will be available in digital format here. This is definitely one to watch out for if you’re a fan of House music. Als make sure to check out my live mix that I did for the label podcast series a few months ago.
