When an artist like Birdee, a name synonymous with feel-good disco grooves, decides to launch his own label, you know it’s going to be something special. I’ve followed his journey for years, and every track he’s released feels like a love letter to classic dance music. Now, with Hot City, he’s channeling that passion into a new era of soulful, modern disco.
Italian-born and LA-based, Birdee spent time crafting this debut release during a sun-drenched creative stint in Silverlake. The result is “Your Love”, a vibrant nu-disco gem featuring powerhouse UK vocalist Alexis Victoria Hall. Blending Californian sunshine with European disco heritage, this uplifting cut brings shimmering strings, a warm, classic bassline, and Hall’s soaring vocals together for a feel-good anthem built for soulful dancefloors and sunset sessions.

“I wanted the first Hot City release to feel joyful and warm, and ‘Your Love’ is exactly that,” says Birdee. Alexis Victoria Hall adds serious emotional weight to the track, making it equally at home on radio rotations, rooftop sets, and late-night disco dancefloors. From Silverlake to stages around the world, “Your Love” marks a confident start for Hot City, and the beginning of a bright new chapter for one of disco’s most genuine torchbearers.
Amanda Lear was all over Italian TV in the 70’s, so as I young kid I became exposed to her music. I was 6 when this song came out and instantly became obsessed, I actually wanted to marry Amanda and my parents were a bit desperate haha. But they did buy me a copy of the album I Am A Photograph.
This was another song I was in love with when I was growing up. I liked the disco sound and I thought Kiss were a disco band, I had no idea they were actually a hard rock act trying their hand at disco, like so many of their contemporaries.
I loved the cover of this single, and still have it on 45. I heard this song and I imagined myself skate boarding on the streets of New York, when in reality I was growing up in a very small town in northern Italy. So again, my parents not only bought me the record but also a skateboard – bless them.
I’ll be honest, I was never a big fan of the “Italo” sound, but this song was special and it still sounds fresh. Again, it was pretty much impossible not to hear it in Italy in 1983. I remember asking my uncle – what does “vamos a la playa” mean? He didn’t know, so he said “let’s go and have an adventure” – I believed that for years
Yes, I know this will surprise a lot of people, but I have a past as a guitar player in rock bands – and hard rock was a big part of my life. I loved the very first Iron Maiden period when Paul Di’Anno (RIP) was still in the band – you can definitely hear the punk influences too in their early work
Prince was probably the artist that fused all my loves – rock, funk, and discofied grooves in the best way. I remember watching Purple Rain and thinking it was an amazing film (then again I also loved Kiss Meets The Phantom Of the Park so…).
This track really has it all, including of course an amazing guitar solo at the end.
Just like Prince was the artist that made me discover funk, Pat Metheny opened my mind to jazz and fusion. I went to see him with his band in 1987 and I still regard it as one of the best concerts I have ever witnessed.
I’m not really a big fan of the Chili Peppers after Californication, but their first few albums have a crazy crazy energy. After all, if they were a crap band like some people seem to think, would George Clinton have agreed to work with them? I think not.
Tom Waits, I don’t know what to say about this man – except that I am kicking myself for not seeing him during his last tour and it doesn’t look like he will be performing live again. The album Rain Dogs is right between his classic songwriting phase and the super experimental and is my fave album of his – this song is actually from Swordfishtrombones and his performance is just next level.
I was lucky enough to see Roy 3 times before he passed, and even played on the same bill as him at a festival (a real “pinch me” moment). The fusion between funk, jazz and accessible pop music is just incredible – a true great.
Massive thanks to Birdee and Alexis Victoria Hall for bringing the love, literally, with this radiant new release, and for taking the time to share their story with us in this Dirty Disco Track Talk. If this first drop from Hot City Records is a taste of what’s to come, we’re in for a soulful, glittering ride.
Go stream or grab “Your Love” now, available on all platforms via Hot City Records, and keep an eye on Birdee, because this is just the beginning of something special.Discover more of Birdee’s world, exclusive Track Talks, and deep dives into modern disco culture on dirtydiscoradio.com.
