Saturday, late morning, 24 degrees in the shade. You grab your sunglasses, your cell phone and your car key. Get in, connect your smartphone to Apple CarPlay, open our playlist on Spotify and play the latest remix by Joe Goddard on Ibibio Sound Machine’s – All That You Want. Open the window, volume up and drive through the beautiful landscape. Somewhere in your location..
Joe Goddard because I was just reminded of his remix that I played in episode 463. Joe Goddard among many other great artists are in the brilliant line-up of the Cala Mijas Festival, whose press release fluttered into my virtual mailbox yesterday.
The event which will take place in Sonora Mijas from September 1 to 3, 2022, has just published the complete program of all artists performing by name. Up to 50,000 visitors are expected daily for the festival premiere, very close to Málaga, in the very south of Spain. Yes, almost in the direction of Gibraltar.
And in addition to Joe Goddard, many, many more acts and artists will be playing. You probably already know that the pioneers of electronic music – Kraftwerk – as well as the legendary Chemical Brothers will be there.
The performance of former Moloko front woman Roísín Murphy should also be interesting. She is also coming to the Costa del Sol at the beginning of September. So will Soulwax, Meute, Bonobo, Hot Chip. There are also a few international headliners away from electronic music, such as Arctic Monkeys, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Liam Gallagher, which I also like to mention.
A festival of great magnitude. The Cala Mijas International Festival takes place at the Sonora Mijas site, located in Cala de Mijas, just 15 minutes from the beach. The site has an area of 150,000 square meters to accommodate the 50,000 visitors expected daily and has four stages and areas for hospitality.
Perhaps one more thing in terms of accommodation and lodging: there are 17,000 campsites available, distributed in different areas near the venue: Parque de los Olivos, with a capacity of 2,000 pitches, is ready for glamping, the VIP version of camping where you can stay with the comfort of a hotel but surrounded by nature, with prices starting at 75 euros for five nights; and camping options at a lower price will be located in Hipódromo de Mijas, with a capacity of 15,000 pitches.
For more info, visit the official website where you can buy various tickets. For example, the 3-day pass costs €154,- . The day pass is priced at €77,-.
