We’ve been waiting a long time for it, but Calvin Harris has finally finished another new album. The Scottish DJ and producer will release the long-awaited Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 early next month, vol. 1 was also released five years ago. In the meantime, there was, of course, the world hit “One Kiss” with Dua Lipa, but Harris’ true heydays mainly date from before that period. So it’s no wonder that the world is eagerly awaiting a full-length album, because in addition to making monster hits, the man is also known for his thick address book.
The list of new collaborations can therefore be called impressive, to say the least: Dua Lipa and Young Thug on “Potion”, 21 Savage on “New Money”, Halsey, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams on this “Stay With Me” and then also Jorja Smith, Snoop Dogg, Stefflon Don, Busta Rhymes, Charlie Puth, 6lack, Swae Lee, Normani, Lil Durk and many more on the rest of the track list.
So there’s plenty to look forward to, even though today’s focus is on the already pre-proclaimed ‘collaboration of the summer’. Okay, if you get Halsey, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams on one song, the chances of ending up on stage are good anyway. The pitfall, however, is that the single in question is not necessarily very special, but Calvin Harris doesn’t seem to be caught out by that either.
Calvin Harris – Stay With Me seems to be turning out to be the summer hit of 2022, as the temperature rises noticeably. A gigantic sultry bass line, along with Halsey, quickly pushes the tempo, after which a summery guitar takes over. Timberlake takes you along with his recognizable high-pitched voice to the choruses, but of course he also makes his own contribution.
When he passes the baton to Pharrell we have quietly reached our boiling point, from which Halsey in turn benefits. It is striking that Calvin Harris does not allow himself to be trapped by a flat and sing-along chorus, but that the whole thing remains gigantically easy to hang on to. The chances of you turning on the radio next summer and hearing “Stay With Me” pass by seem particularly high.
Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 will be released on August 5.
