Music has no boundaries or rules, it just needs to sound good, touch the soul and bring people together for good times. This is where music creators and DJ’s can express their creativity. Therefore i’m proud to premiere a new release in this week’s music review: CHAMP – Fantasy Land is as how he describes it himself an insight into the mind of a fantasist.

Introduction to CHAMP.

Who is CHAMP and what do we know about this fantasist music maker? CHAMP who goes under his real name Mark Delany comes from the seaside resort and harbor city Hastings in the United Kingdom. Where he creates music with just a minimal studio set-up and a back to basics approach using analog gear such as synthesizers and a 80’s drum machine. Which you can witness ‘behind the scene’ of the making of this new EP on his Instagram and YouTube accounts.

Recently i got connected with Mark and got the pleasure to hear he likes to tune into my weekly podcast while he Shazams all played tracks. You can imagine that i really felt honored to hear this from somebody who is deep into and passionate about music like i am.

I also got the privilege to hear his newest and 2nd studio EP ‘Fantasy Land’ Which is set for release on the 3th of April. As soon as i started to play this EP i was happily surprised with the high quality of his work and the beauty in his tracks that i decided to review it here on the music blog and feature one of the tracks in podcast episode 349 – For The Heroes Mix. But that’s not all! CHAMP also was so nice to offer a track for our weekly free download as a give away.

CHAMP – Fantasy Land EP

Let’s look and listen to CHAMPS Fantasy Land EP which he self releases as this is his 2nd EP after releasing his ‘Find Your Feet EP’ back in 2016 that includes the also very much worth to mention track ‘Brothers Youth’. As a newcomer to the electronic music scene he is still finding his way in what works and what not. So if you like supporting new music artists you will be one of the early adopters of his music. This is your chance to support a real talent and a great artist in the making.

CHAMP – Fantasy Land includes 4 tracks created in his home studio with his analog music gear and the creative mind of a fantasist. It goes for all tracks on this release when i say that you can right away experience the analog warmth in the music. All tracks are very well crafted, well arranged and from high quality. Let’s look at each track separate.

1. Fantasy Land.

This is the main title track and the first track to play on the EP for a proper introduction. It right away opens up with the vocal line ‘All I Do Is Dream’ which is sampled from Flashlight – Every Little Beat Of My Heart (1978). Not long after a few bars of the All i do is dream vocal a kick comes in and not long after a very heavy wobbling bassline is there to take you on this trip into the mind of an fantasist.

Fantasy Land Teaser

The overall vibe of this electronic indie dance track is very positive and generates a lot of energy which essentially makes standing still impossible. From the very beginning until the very end the energy builds up very nicely and steady. Every sound element that comes in to play creates another layer of energy. Even in the break when certain sounds stop playing a dynamic synthesizer sound manages to make you want to move again as soon as the kick is back in the arrangement your body starts to shiver again and the groove is on!

There are healing powers occuring that heal the mind from the crazy ‘Corona’ times we are currently in.

2. Healing Power

The second track on the Fantasy Land EP is called Healing Power. Again analog heat jumps of directly as the synth introduces a tight rhythm, percussion and solid bass. Like the title explains it definitely feels like there are healing powers occuring that heal the mind from the crazy ‘Corona’ times we are currently in. The track is full of dope sound FX elements, dreamy soundscapes and a melancholic vocal that lifts you up.

3. Get It together

Second last and third track on the EP comes right up after you healed your mind. Now it’s time to get it all back together with a pumping electro modern breakbeat Italo infused Disco track.

I would really suggest you to play all this tracks in the right order as they come on the EP since it’s a story to be told through music. After the opening track Fantasy Land, The Healing Powers in the second one, Get It Together is the time to bust your move, get grip on that dance floor and make it yours. The Energy level exceeds the previous two in a total different way. A fast paced rhythmic groove together with fast stabbing synths and a arpeggiated bassline really make it difficult for you not to bounce on this one.

Sunshine Promise Teaser

4. Sunshine Promise (celebrates spring)

After rain comes sunshine they say. What if there is no rain? What will happen in a worst case scenario when weather is of no importance anymore since all we are afraid is the Covid-19 virus? Sunshine is the promise.

The message here is to stay strong, take care of yourself and loved ones, stay safe, do not worry be positive. Sunshine and good times are promised.

After you had your introduction with ‘Fantasy Land’, healed your mind with ‘Healing Power’ and got it all back on track with ‘Get It Together’ it’s time to enjoy a boost of Sunshine vitamins in Spring flavored ‘Sunshine Promise‘.

If you ask me, not that you did but i will answer anyway. All tracks come perfectly together in the last and 4th track on the EP by CHAMP. Sunshine Promise is not just a promise for good weather but a promise that all will come good. The message here is to stay strong, take care of yourself and loved ones, stay safe, do not worry be positive. Sunshine and good times are promised.
