Introduction: A Producer Shaped by Soul, Funk and Analog Passion
Berlin based Australian musician Declan McDermott arrives with a debut EP for Delusions Of Grandeur that feels like a culmination of every chapter in his musical life. Raised on a diet of disco, funk and soul, trained as a multi instrumentalist, and now deep in the craft of analog driven house production, Declan brings a sound that is warm, emotional and rhythmically alive. His new release Doin It All 4 U is not just a club record. It is a reflection of where he has been and where he is heading next.
Across the EP, he blends shimmering Rhodes, bubbling live basslines, vocoder soaked vocals and crisp drums into grooves that feel equally at home in living rooms and late night dance floors. The remixes offer further dimensions from Tom Trago and Lovetempo, while Dani featuring Luxonous expands the EP into jazzy and atmospheric territory. This Track Talk dives into the music, the influences behind it and the story of an artist who has quietly shaped his own lane in the electronic world.
The Release: Doin It All 4 U and the Sound of Honest Groove
Declan’s title track Doin It All 4 U is a soulful, funky house jam built from the ground up with live musicality. The Rhodes chords shimmer, the bassline bubbles with intention, and the drums cut through with crunchy clarity. The vocoder lines add warmth and personality, creating a feeling of intimacy and optimism that sits right at the heart of his sound.
For the first remix, Dutch house mainstay Tom Trago reshapes the original into a heavier club ready burner. His version pushes the low end, tightening the groove and transforming the track into a peak time moment without losing the soulful core that makes the original so inviting.
Lovetempo takes the reins next, blending 808 drums, Moog textures and a deep boogie sensibility to create a cosmic reinterpretation. His remix sits somewhere between retro electro and modern funk, offering a playful and analog rich alternative universe.
The EP closes with Dani featuring Luxonous. Built on a fluid, jazzy groove, the track carries atmospheric depth while weaving soprano saxophone and EWI into the arrangement. Its meditative motion recalls the spirit of artists like Frederick Galliano and St Germain, making it a powerful finale that highlights Declan’s range.
The Artist Behind the Music: A Life Guided by Instruments and Emotion
Declan is a multi instrumentalist from Sydney who now calls Berlin home. He works across bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals and synthesisers, often reaching for vintage gear, analog recording setups and classic drum machines. His musical fingerprint is shaped by years of hands on playing, experimentation and collaboration.
He has contributed to projects with Lovebirds, Black Loops, SIRS, Red Pig Flower, Joel Holmes, Derrick McKenzie from Jamiroquai, and Byron the Aquarius. Tracks he has worked on for labels like Freerange, Glitterbox, Live at Robert Johnson, Teardrop Recordings and Sound of Vast have reached charts such as the Traxsource Top 10.
This broad creative background explains why Doin It All 4 U feels so lived in. The EP carries the fingerprints of a musician who listens deeply and plays with intention.
