Fouk on the Tracks That Shaped Their Sound + New ‘Sundays’ EP

Fouk, the Dutch duo of childhood friends Daniel Leseman and Hans Peeman, are artists I’ve been keeping a close eye on for a while now. They’ve consistently carved out their own lane with house-infused productions that strike that sweet spot between dancefloor energy and understated sophistication.

On their new single ‘Reverie’, you can hear exactly why. Playful synth textures, disco elasticity and a deep-funk sensibility all come together in a track that feels like daydreaming in motion. A syncopated synth bass and analogue drum-machine groove lay the foundation, while bright electric piano stabs add that signature musicality. It’s precise, it’s fluid, and it just works.

Fouk Track Talk

For this one, they’ve teamed up with New York-based project 79.5, led by singer-songwriter Kate Mattison. Her harmonically rich vocals and that warm, soulful “AM Gold” vibe fit perfectly with Fouk’s sound. The result is a blend of disco, funk and modern house that feels both fresh and familiar at the same time.

Following their previous release ‘Tune It Out’ on Boogie Angst, together with The Phenomenal Handclap Band, ‘Reverie’ feels like a natural progression. It’s all about groove, chemistry and instinct, and you can hear that in every layer of the track.

In this Track Talk, Fouk take us inside the records, moments and influences that shaped their sound and continue to inspire their productions today.

The Ambush – Everlast

Great trance track by Oliver Lieb, it also has this house edge to it with the sampled bits and loopy feel. Man this brings back so many memories!

Sasha – Xpander

Stone cold classic! We played this to bits and it was a huge inspiration to us to start making music.

Tom Browne – Funkin For Jamaica

It’s in the name: it’s funkin’! Such a good song, that Moog bassline is crazy!

Daft Punk – Veridis Quo

Could be any other song from that classic album, but there’s a sweet melancholy in this track that strikes a chord 🙂

Nathan Haines feat. Marlena Shaw – Squire For Hire (Fouk Remix)

We are so lucky we got to work on this remix for these legendary artists! Nathan is a really nice guy and he even recorded new parts for the remix!

Sadly not everyone who was involved in the original song is still with us anymore (RIP Marlena & Phil).

So you can imagine we really wanted to do justice to the original song. We’re really pleased that it was so well received.

Motor City Drums Ensemble – Raw Cuts #5

We played this track by MCDE a lot in those days. He amongst others was a big inspiration to us on how to use samples in productions.

Steely Dan – Peg

This song needs no introduction, right? Amazing song, love the funk and intricate layers. There’s a documentary on how they recorded the song. Seriously, watch that!

Fouk – Whiskey Ginger

We made this song while on musical retreat at the Dutch coast in 2015 / 2016. We remember having so much fun making this and we think it shows in this EP we made for Razor-n-Tape.

We have really fond memories of playing this at Le Rafiot in Strasbourg in 2016. It was vibing so hard with the crowd.

Mousse T. feat. Hot ‘n’ Juicy – Horny ’98

When we were in high school, this song was everywhere! We loved this so much. It has definitely been a huge inspiration to our music.

Fouk and Archil & Leon – Sundays

Fouk - Sundays

Sundays feels special to us, from writing the instrumental first and how the completed song together with A&L came together is just the perfect vibe. It’s also the most Kraak & Smaak like song we’ve done to date, so it’s a perfect fit on Boogie Angst we reckon!

Thanks and conclusion

Big thanks to Fouk for taking the time to share these records and stories. It’s always refreshing to see artists who are this deeply connected to their roots, yet still pushing things forward in their own way.

If you’ve been following Dirty Disco for a while, you already know these are exactly the kind of artists we love to support. Honest music, crafted with intention, built for both the dancefloor and beyond.

Make sure you check out the brand new Sundays EP, out now on Boogie Angst. Whether you’re into groove-driven house, disco influences, or just well-produced music that stands the test of time, this one deserves your attention.

And as always, you can dive deeper, find the full tracklist, and explore more artist features on our website.
