As he prepares for a new album in 2024, Gallo teases us with his ‘Hidden Inside EP’ on Hell Yeah. This new outing comes not long after his Tropical Hinterhof Remix of Calm’s sublime ‘I Love You’. At the vanguard of the nu-breed Balearic movement, Gallo is a mainstay. Part of the Balearic Gabba Sound System crew, and Buena Onda resident, he has an uplifting sound that has come out mostly on Hell Yeah but has also had music selected for compilations that include Cafe del Mar and Colleen’ Cosmo’ Murphy’s Balearic Breakfast. The Berlin-based artist is currently working on his debut long player but first shares with the world these four enchanting cuts.
On the week of the release, we ask Matteo to talk us through 10 tracks have made a dent in his musical world.
Lucio Dalla & Gianni Morandi – Dimmi Dimmi
Track from 1988 by two of the most famous Italian singers. A sentimental song for me and one that I can’t resist playing with my friends every time I go to Italy.
Paprika Soul – Come with Me (Sea Breeze)
Discovered a couple of years ago. Truly amazing track! Come with me now!! Goosebumps every time!
Jonathan Jeremiah – Happiness (Quiet Village Remix)
It makes me cry every time. Reminds me of a time here in Berlin when I was living with my brother and he was looking after me. He wanted it as the last track on a mixtape we were putting together. Love.
Todd Terje – Ragish
Masterful production from Todd Terje. I could play this to every party. I always love the journey of this track. Evergreen!
Luminodisco – Oh Mary
Luminodisco’s track on Hell Yeah Recordings is a set essential for me. Its infectious groove and captivating melodies consistently set the dance floor ablaze, crafting an unforgettable atmosphere.
Heart Sphere – E.R. (Emergency Relief)(Piano Mix)
Tornado Wallace and Jamie Tiller (RIP) made this wonderful piece of music. I had the opportunity to play it in front of the sea in Italy a few years ago. It was a magical moment.
J-Walk – Find Another Breeze (Gallo Tropical Hinterhof Remix)
This remix is part of my “Tropical Hinterhof Remix” Collection, inspired by my early days in a Berlin ground-floor flat. Despite the chilly weather, my cats and I enjoyed the warmth, and the house heating turned our space into a quasi-tropical heaven.
Alex Kassian – Leave Your Life (Lonely Hearts Mix)
A timeless connection that resonates deeply, Berlin’s Alex Kassian’s classic never fails to evoke delightful emotions.
The remix that the Japanese artist Calm did for my track “Abysso” is superb! The piano riff mixed with the beat he created has resulted in a powerful combination! Huge!
Gallo (Berlin) – That Moment
“That Moment”, the turning point we will remember forever. As we embrace the present, it’s ‘that moment’ all over again.
Final words on this track talk with Gallo.
Exploring Gallo’s musical influences is like taking a journey through a rich tapestry of sound, emotion, and memories. From the nostalgic Italian notes of Lucio Dalla to the innovative beats of Todd Terje, each track has contributed to the unique sonic landscape that Gallo creates. His ‘Hidden Inside EP’ is not just a collection of songs, but a reflection of these diverse musical experiences. We extend our deepest gratitude to Gallo for sharing his inspirations with us. To the fans of nuanced, soul-stirring music: immerse yourself in the ‘Hidden Inside EP‘ and experience the essence of Gallo’s musical genius.
