Not too long ago we had the pleasure to do an exclusive interview with Third Attempt about his carreer and family life. Now the talented producer rides in with his latest EP on Beatservice, crafting four suitably stunning tracks on the spellbinding ‘The Spirit’.  A beloved fixture of the Beatservice roster now, Third Attempt combines a dazzling quality threshold with a prolific work rate, his immaculate productions have cemented his position as one of the Norwegian underground’s most reliable artists!  On the week of the release of  his new EP we ask one of Norway’s best exports to talk us through ten tracks that serve as milestones along his musical journey.

Interview with Third Attempt

Bugge Wesseltoft – Change

Hard to pick a favourite from BW. Changed my perception on what electronic and jazz music can be. Have since had this man as a mentor, recorded music and played live with him. Forever grateful.

Røyksopp – Poor Leno

Timeless banger from the Tromsø-duo. Addictive groove vocals and really creative elements throughout. Especially the percussion. Placed ideas in my head from a young age, watching the music video on MTV.

Daft Punk – Around The World

No words needed. Timeless dance classic which I still find room for in my sets. Bassline that changes up halfway is SO good.

Michael Jackson – Don’t stop till you get enough

Production on this is what seals the deal. Quincy Jones hits it out of the park with the synth bass, strings and banger arrangement. No wonder it still works on the floor.

Floating Points – ARP3

The patience, the ambience, the groove. Real warm, soulful, organic feel from a real musician.

Jordan Rakei – Say Something

Also hard to pick a favourite from this amazing artist. One of my favourite voices. Crazy to think he does a lot of the production as well as the singing.

Jungle – Good Times

Jungle has reached commercial status, but on their own terms. Hitting it out of the park with this one. The hook makes me want to get up and dance every time.

Ian Pooley – Spicy Snapper

Lots of influences shining through on this one. Really funky, uplifting track. I love the vocal samples and synthwork dancing on top of the sampled groove throughout.

Gang Starr – Mass Appeal

Will never not nod my head to this. Strong beat, really cool flow and strong message.

Darius – EQUILIBRIUM

Theme is an instant success. Synth keys and banging bassline. Feel like you could loop this forever. Creative twist with the progressively evolving soundscape. Peaking at the end. Pure bliss.

BONUS TRACK

Favorite from my newest EP is “Soul Body & Mind”. I am very happy with the range I am able to show here. Putting many influences in one track is always something im trying to do.

End Conclusion.

Thanks for tuning into this exclusive tracktalk with Third Attempt. It’s always enlightening to understand the musical odyssey of a true artist, especially one as talented as him.
