Soul Clap Records release the stunning new single ‘Amazement ft. Khyenci’ that fuses quality house vibes with a contemporary neo soul feeling. Khyenci is a singer and songwriter from the Bay Area, California, who captivates listeners with her distinctive tone and her poetic lyrical expression that talks of self-acceptance, growth, and patience.  On a recent writing camp at Empire Records Studios in San Francisco, Soul Clap linked with this remarkable talent, who’s sound has shaped this record into a vibe to remember this summer.

KHYENCI

Charles Levine knew instantly Khyenci was special. “When I first heard Khyenci’s voice and range, I knew she had skills but working with her over a week of workshop sessions, I can now see the power and capacity she has as a force of singing and songwriting. When Khyenci heard the track she wrote the lyrics immediately, recording her vocals in one take; this is the mark of a great moment in music recording.”

On ‘Amazement’ Khyenci glides gracefully between low-slung neo soul and gentle bumpin’ house grooves, the track bound together by her flawless vocal (sounding a little bit Cleo Soul to me!) and Soul Claps warm and soulful production techniques.

Here Khyenci highlights ten tracks that made a mark on her musical journey.

John Mayer – Why Georgia

My first favorite artist, one of my first albums, and to this day one of my favorite songwriters and performers. This song still gets played on any and every road trip.

Dominic Fike – Joe Blazey

If there’s one artist of today that I’m a HUGE fan one its Dominic Fike. This album will forever be one of my fave albums of all time.

Natasha Bedingfield – Love Like This

Natasha Bedingfield is one of my top songwriters and really was the soundtrack to the start of my love for pop music. This song makes me want to dance around the house and that’s what it’s all about to me.

James Fauntleroy – Fertilizer

I love the concept of this song. It’s so literal and metaphorical at the same time, but it’s almost silly, how good it feels.

Amy Winehouse – Valerie

It’s hard to choose the best Amy song, but Valerie has the feel good swing, Mixed with the sultry longing that gives me goosebumps. It’s a classic for eternity.

Music Soulchild – Just Friends

This song kind of feels like it played in the background of all of my childhood memories. The tone and timbre of his voice has always just left me feeling like “Yeah, that’s what a vocalist should sound like.”

Corinne Bailey Rae – Just Like a Star

The first song I ever recorded and released (it was a cover of course), so it lives in my memory forever as a favorite. It’s so delicate and swelling and simple.

Norah Jones – I Don’t Know Why

Honestly just THE most chilling song. It feels like an end of summer night at the fair. It’s almost haunting, but it feels like youth and maturity at the same time. It’s just all encompassing.

India Arie – Little Things

THE MESSAGE! India Arie is the teacher for me of self-expression and this song is just that. It’s lyrical and direct and at the very same time melodic and sweet.

Soulclap x Khyenci – Amazement

My current favorite song. It’s on repeat while I soak up these final moments of summer. And will continue to be on repeat into the Fall .. lol.

Thank you!
