Every once in a while, I get to sit down with an artist whose taste in music not only tells their story, but also maps out the DNA of house music itself. This time, it’s none other than Leo Leonski, a true globetrotter of sound, born in Switzerland, now based in Mexico City, who has shaped dancefloors from Tulum to Berlin.
In this Track Talk, Leo takes us through his all-time top 7 house records, from timeless basslines to those unforgettable sweaty jungle nights and the raw soul of disco cuts that shaped his journey. Each track comes with a memory, a story, and a piece of his musical identity.
And the timing couldn’t be more perfect: Leo just dropped his brand-new release ‘After Dark’ on Boyanza Records, a late-night ride full of hypnotic synths, cruising city vibes, and pure dancefloor magnetism. But before we dive into that, let’s explore the records that made Leo Leonski who he is today.
‘JOSH ONE – KING BRITT FUNKE (KING BRITT FUNKE REMIX)
The bass line, I don’t know what it does to me, but since the first time I heard it years ago I loved this tune immediately. Just keeps pushing so nice.
RUEDE HAGELSTEIN – EMERGENCY
Back when I worked as a barkeeper in Berlin, many times when we were tired, melancholic or had a wild night, this song somehow played somewhere around me. Brings back such fun memories.
DEEP SWING – IN THE MUSIC
This to me is a true house classic I played so many times in the jungle back when we worked in Tulum, sweaty disco nights. Just really moved everyone on the dance floor.
KIKI GYAN – DISCO DANCER
Those vocals, wow… so much soul in my opinion. And the clap, so raw and vintage I just love it, the kind of sounds that brings you to the roots of disco and house music.
GRUPO CONTROLE DIGITAL – A FESTA E NOSSA (GAZ EDIT)
There’s this edit, from Gaz, but also the original one, both such fine tunes with full on 80s disco vibes.
MATT ASTLE – DANCER
I don’t even know how I found this song randomly back in the days, I think someone sent it to me. But it has such a fun kick and guitar in the back mixed with the “get it up” vocals. Maybe you could call this jackin house, I don’t even know. But I remember playing this tune sometimes and people went stompin.
YUKSEK – I DON’T HAVE A DRUM MACHINE
A classic one from Yuksek, used to shape our dancefloors a lot a few years ago with the French touch.
Thank you!
