Is it a bird or is it a plane? Hell no! It looks like it’s going to be even better than that. On the official Instagram account of the world famous DJ Turntable maker. It seems to appear that there is going to be a new Technics SL-1200 turntable.

Is it the new Technics SL-1200 MK7?

Until now Technics is not very clear about what they are going to release exactly. But all signs are definitely pointing to a new DJ turntable which mean they would be following up on their previous MK6 release in 2007.

Clear signs on social media.

On Instagram there are a few posts that show images and hints that clearly reveal that they are going to uphold to a legacy. Which would indicate that their SL-1200 turntable which became the worldwide DJ standard and helped shaping the DJ scene as it it nowadays. Get’s a new version.

Creating a new standard and the word ‘revive’ as they use in their latest Instagram post should also point your thoughts in the direction of a new turntable standard for DJ’s and music lovers.

Technics 7th Live event.

Not only these posts are already giving a lot information away. There is also going to be a Technics 7th live-streaming event in Las Vegas on the 7th of January. This event will be broadcasted on platforms like Boiler room which mostly focuses on live DJ set’s around the world. And on Dommune, only this indicates that it has to do something with DJ’s and thus this must be a new DJ turntable.

There are also the DJ and Producer names mentioned from Kenny Dope, Derrick May, Cut Chemist and DJ Koco, which are not the smallest names in the DJ industry. All this together tells us already a lot about what;s going to happen.

The new DJ turntable and music listener standard?

That it’s going to be a new Technics SL-1200 turntable is pretty sure. That it would be the 7th model also. But how it’s going to look, the design, quality, the feel and sound are a big surprise. Next to that the SL-1200 started out as perfect DJ equipment, but through the years it also became a often used turntable by music purists and lovers of 12”.

Now that there are even more vinyl users than ever before. This might just be a good reason for Technics to not only focus on the DJ’s, but also on music listeners.

Competition for The Pioneer PLX series?

Next to that, Pioneer stepped in the turntable market as soon as Technics left it a couple of years ago. And started producing their now often used PLX-500 and PLX-1000 turntable series, which became a decent replacement for the SL-1200 at that time.

Therefor Technics has to compete with the Pioneers which could also indicate that they are not only are going to deliver a better record player. But this could also indicate that there finally is going to be an affordable alternative for all the other DJ turntables.

We are looking forward to what Technics is about to bring to us. Make sure to tune in with their live event the 7th of January.
