Vibe Me to The Moon Records is run by Nightsteppaz. The label is fiercely dedicated to releasing killer electronica from house to deep house to techno. The imprint has gone on to work with the likes of Huxley, Roland Clark, Joeski, Franck Roger, Mr. V, Demarkus Lewis, Fred Everything and more. We get the chance to sit down with the main man to talk about his exciting new release ‘Inside The Warehouse’ that drops this week.
Thanks for taking the time to talk! How are you spending the day?
I am at my studio/office. Today I am listening to a playlist of Deep House and Tech House
Where were you born, where did you grow up?
I was born and grew up in New York City in the United States.
Paint us a picture of where you were raised, and what was going on there musically?
I was raised in the centre of New York City, where all the tall buildings are. Hip-Hop was very popular when I was a teenager in 1994.
Where are you based these days?
These days I am based out of a state called Massachusetts in the United States.
What do you love about where you are living?
I love living in Massachusetts because I have the space to make music and do what I love without having to worry about neighbours calling the Police for noise complaints.
How long have you been making music, and what was your first musical step?
I have been producing music for about 8 years. My first musical step was learning to play the guitar when I was about 18 years old.
What music were you into in your teens?
When I was a teenager, I was into both rock music and hip hop. I remember really liking the Wu-Tang Clan, since they were from New York. Also, I really liked Foo Fighters and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Are you a DJ too?
I don’t really see myself as a DJ. When I first listened to House music, I was DJing. I played a handful of DJ Gigs, then moved onto producing records and owning a record company.
You are also a musician. What do you play and to what degree?
I played guitar for many years, and I have spent some time playing the drums also. I can play a bunch of rock and roll tunes on the guitar.
What challenges did you face in putting out your first release?
My first release went very smoothly, actually.
What do you feel has been your most notable release?
I think my Nightsteppaz and Roland Clark – “The Energy Of The Room” is my most notable release, that or Nightsteppaz and Roland Clark “God Was In the Speakers”.
Which one of your releases do you think slipped under the radar that we should check?
Nightsteppaz and Roland Clark “God Was In the Speakers” for sure.
How long has Vibe Me to the Moon been around?
It has been around 6 years. Founded in 2017
What is the music policy on the label?
The label releases music based on my musical tastes. We release both Deep House and Tech House
Who has released on the label since its inception?
Too many artists to name. Roland Clark, Robert Babicz, Mihai Popiviciu, Jay Tripwire, Mass Digital.
Who else is VMTTM working with at the moment?
Right now, we are working with Fred Everything and Franck Roger, which we are very excited about.
What is the most recent record you purchased?
I am really enjoying the new Fred Everything single, “Integration”.
I opened my most recent DJ mix with that track.
What other great artists should we watch out for from your hometown?
Kev Obrien and Chris Luzz, and Mr. V.
Give us the lowdown on the original track – Inside the Warehouse?
I got the idea for the “Inside the Warehouse” Original Mix from flipping through my sample bank. Sometimes you can be inspired by sounds from your sample bank, and that was the case with this track, I heard a cool keyboard riff and went from there to put together the track.
How did Mr V get involved in the release?
As a producer, I have worked with Mr. V before, he is one of my favorite vocalists. We asked him to record vocals for that track.
You have an army of remix talent on this record. Talk to us through Franck Roger’s take on the original.
Franck Roger really nailed it with his remix, it is my favorite remix on the “Inside The Warehouse” EP. Franck laid down a really cool bass line and he put sounds effects on Mr. V’s vocals, which were very cool.
Demarkus Lewis has two versions on the final cut. Were you just too in love with the instrumental to leave it aside?
I think it is a good idea to release tracks with both a vocal version and an instrumental version because some people love listening to tracks with vocals, however, some people are purists and hate house music tracks with vocals.
Tell us a little about the artist Montel and how you discovered him.
I had bought a bunch of Montel’s Tech House records on Beatport and I really wanted him to make music for my label. Montel is one of the best Tech House producers out there. You should definitely check out his tracks.
What are you working on next that you can share?
My next project is the Sasch – Losing You EP. I produced two vocal versions for that EP, which came out really nice.
