There’s something special about artists who don’t rush the moment, but instead take their time, absorb life, and then translate that into sound. That’s exactly what happened when I first dove into Old Sedan’s music.
Based in Paris but shaped by a life between France and the US, Bastien Francoulon, aka Old Sedan, brings a sound that feels like movement. Not just physical movement through a city, but emotional movement too. His debut EP With Love My Dear really captures that feeling of wandering through urban streets with your headphones on, letting the music guide your pace, your mood, your thoughts.

What stood out to me immediately is how naturally he balances contrast. There’s this strong dancefloor energy, rooted in house and synth-driven textures, but at the same time it stays introspective… human. You hear influences from ‘90s and 2000s house, but also jazz, hip-hop, and that deeper melodic sensitivity that comes from his background as a musician first, guitar, synths, production… the full spectrum.
And what makes this project even more interesting is how it came together. Built entirely in his Belleville studio, this EP feels like a six-chapter journey through a city, from late afternoon glow into deep night energy. It’s spontaneous, honest, and intentionally not over-polished, which, in my opinion, is exactly why it connects.
So in this conversation, we go deeper into that world, his influences, the story behind the EP, his connection with Partyfine, and what drives him creatively.
Let’s get into it.
Hey! Thanks for having me! I’m in Paris. I was playing football (soccer for our US readers) this morning. I’ll be spending the rest of this beautiful spring day listening to music and getting ready for my upcoming gigs.
I was born in Bordeaux, grew up in the USA, and am currently based in Paris.
Definitely the energy. I love the energy here in Paris, playing football outside right in the middle of the city, having lunch outside with friends, stopping by the studio, meeting up with friends for an apéro. The food, the music, the architecture… it’s a thriving, exciting city.

If money wasn’t a thing, I still couldn’t live in one place all year round. I’d definitely spend more time in the southwest of France surfing and spending time with my family, but I think my balance is in a mix of both worlds.
I started playing guitar (my first instrument) pretty late, I think I was 17. I’d been listening to music in a really intense way, and once I started playing I went for a deep dive right away, playing 7–8 hours a day. But starting late meant that I didn’t imagine making a living out of music until pretty late. So I guess it’s been my fulltime job for ten years now, maybe.
Yep, I’ve also been DJing for a little while now. Playing, writing, and producing came first. I started DJing after really getting into synthesizers, drum machines, and producing electronic music in general.
At home my parents listened to a lot of folk, blues, jazz, and rock from the 60s/70s (but they also got me into Kraftwerk). I think my first independent music culture as an early teenager was through rap and hiphop. Living on the East Coast, I listened to a lot of East Coast classics, A Tribe Called Quest, Notorious B.I.G., Mase, Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, Gang Starr, DMX.

A friend of mine here in Paris called Obsimo released an album last year, Life Balance, very cool emotional electronic music.
Also a huge fan of Gerry Read, who released Curses Broken last year.
An alltime classic: Curtis by Curtis Mayfield.
Emotional and danceable electronic music.
Ha ha ha. It’s from Pink Floyd’s track “San Tropez”:
As I reach for a peach, slide a rind down behind
The sofa in San Tropez
Breakin’ a stick with a brick on the sand
Ridin’ a wave in the wake of an old sedan
I don’t know, it just felt like a vibe I could stick with. I like the idea of a sedan, nothing really fancy, something humble, comfortable, practical, something you can rely on.
This EP really came out of me getting my studio, a place where I could plug in all of my synths, guitars, basses, and just have fun. It’s in the heart of Belleville here in Paris, and I really wanted to convey something visual, a sense of motion, whether it be through highenergy dancefloororiented tracks or more contemplative tracks. I wanted the songs to be the soundtrack of a night in the city from 5 PM to 5 AM.
I really wanted these tracks to sound like a soundtrack to urban wanderings, something people can put in their headphones and feel like it clicks with what’s going on around them.
It works for me, so I guess it probably works for other people out there ha ha.
Staying spontaneous! The process with Yuksek and Partyfine was really smooth, and it was one of my intentions from the start, to get the music from my studio to people’s ears as fast as possible. It’s not perfect, and nothing ever is, even if you spend ten years on it, so I really wanted this first release to be fun, spontaneous, and honest.

I don’t really feel like there were any challenges, and I guess that sort of echoes the previous question. Probably because it’s my first release as Old Sedan, everything felt fun about it.
I discovered Yuksek a long time ago and have been following Partyfine since the beginning. I’m a big fan of Yuksek’s music but also his vision as a musician, whether it be through Yuksek, Destiino (his more electronicoriented project), his talents as a producer, writing for others, or even soundtrack composing. I think he brings that versatility to his record label, and I can totally identify with that.
The freedom and the fun. I feel like when writing music, no matter the mood, there’s a part of exploration, looking for ideas, sounds, textures, structures, and that’s where the fun is. A song can take a sharp turn at any point during the writing/producing process, and that’s what keeps the process so thrilling.
Writing this EP, producing it, and mixing it! Everything just clicked so fast, and I really appreciated the nofuss process with Yuksek and Partyfine. I feel like the best is yet to come, we’re going to be playing a couple of gigs together this spring/summer, and I’m really looking forward to that!
My friends! Most definitely my friends and my friends’ friends. No matter the genre, I feel like my friends are the ones who really bring me out of my comfort zone, and that’s where the magic lies. I do dig a lot of music on my own through record stores, the internet, and streaming platforms, but that’s always through my own prism of things.
Nothing really specific, but I’m just super excited and grateful to be releasing my first solo EP!
I’m going to be playing a couple of gigs over the spring/summer here in France. I’ve also been working on a second EP, it’s almost done, and I think it’s safe to say I’ll start releasing new music before the end of ’26.
Big thanks to Old Sedan for sharing his story and giving us a deeper look into the world behind With Love My Dear. It’s one of those debut releases that doesn’t just introduce an artist, it sets a direction.
If you haven’t checked the EP yet, this is your moment. Dive in, let it soundtrack your next late-night walk, your commute, or your next dancefloor session, it works on all levels.
And keep your ears open, because this is clearly just the beginning. With new music already on the horizon and gigs lined up, Old Sedan is moving fast, and with purpose.Go stream With Love My Dear now, and support the release.
