Every so often, a record comes along that reminds me why I fell in love with house music in the first place. Music Not Numbers, the latest EP from Burnin Music label head Pegasvs, is one of those moments. It’s part two of his ongoing In Search Of trilogy, a concept series exploring the emotional and human side of dance floor music.
Following the acclaimed Extend and Play EP, Pegasvs dives even deeper into the language of groove, balancing analog soul with contemporary precision. The result is a warm, heartfelt collection of tracks that feel both timeless and distinctly now, house music for thinkers and dancers alike.

1. Music Not Numbers
The title track sets the tone immediately. It’s more than just a tune; it’s a quiet rebellion against the algorithmic way we consume music today. From the opening chords, it radiates an energy that feels personal, like Pegasvs is reminding us that music is meant to be felt, not just streamed. The classic house chords, shuffling percussion, and emotive synth work all nod to early Kerri Chandler and Dam Swindle, while maintaining a signature Burnin Music groove.
2. Groove Theory
If the opener is the manifesto, Groove Theory is the proof. This one keeps the dance floor moving with a hypnotic rhythm and deep chord progression that builds and releases tension like waves. The track captures that magical mid-set energy, soulful, punchy, and perfectly arranged for both intimate clubs and sunlit terraces.
3. Trapped in Love
With Trapped in Love, Pegasvs changes the mood slightly. It’s a euphoric, vocal-driven piece built around a throbbing bassline and a few well-placed acid stabs that keep it raw. The vocal hook is infectious, evoking that moment when love and rhythm blur together on a packed floor. It’s the kind of track that stays in your head long after the needle lifts.
4. The Flute Song
Closing the EP, The Flute Song is pure celebration. It’s playful and buoyant, bringing a sense of closure that feels earned. The flute motif dances effortlessly across crisp drums, creating one of those rare tracks that works as well in a warm-up set as it does in the closing hour. It’s fun, human, and full of character, the kind of track you wish would never end.
Pegasvs’ approach to production is as deliberate as it is emotional. The mix is spacious and tactile, every element breathing in its own space. There’s a clear love for analog texture here, dusty hats, rich pads, and deep, rounded basslines that feel alive. It’s not just house music; it’s craftsmanship.
Fans of MCDE, Jimpster, Dam Swindle, and early West London broken beat will find plenty to connect with here. Yet Pegasvs manages to bring something fresh to the table, a modern sensibility grounded in classic groove philosophy.
Music Not Numbers isn’t just another deep house release, it’s a statement. It’s about connection, feeling, and the stories we tell through rhythm. In a time when algorithms predict what we should listen to next, Pegasvs reminds us why the human touch still matters.
You can hear selections from this EP in Dirty Disco episode 616, where I dive into its energy and how it fits into today’s underground scene.
If you love deep, soulful, and beautifully produced house music, this one deserves a spot in your collection. Stream or grab the vinyl via Pegasvs on Bandcamp and keep Burnin Music firmly on your radar.
