After month’s of speculation, the worst kept secret in the DJ community is official – Pioneer have released a vinyl turntable!
The PLX-1000 – which is available from late August 2014 aims to tackle a perceived shortage of high quality turntables in nightclubs following the discontinuation of the industry standard Technics 1210.
But will it become the new benchmark for vinyl and DVS DJs worldwide? With Pioneer’s existing domination in the DJ booths of the world, you certainly wouldn’t bet against it!
The layout will be familiar to any 1210 user but it comes with some extra features including a variable pitch control (±8%, ±16% and ±50%), a tempo reset button (as seen on the Mk 5 1210s) and super high torque. The platter reaches 33rpm in 0.3 seconds).
Like all Pioneer products, the PLX-1000 don’t come cheap – $699 each – but if they last as long as Technics, then it could be a fine long term investment. Will you be buying a PLX-1000?
Do you think it is a good move to get into the turntable game at this stage? Let us know what you think in the comments…
