When it comes to musical evolution, few can claim a journey as colorful and transformative as Rawb Boss, the electrifying alter ego of Bay Area’s own Coflo (who we talked to before). Known for his deep, soulful beats that have reverberated through house music, Rawb Boss invites us into his world to explore the 10 tracks that have not only influenced his musical style but have shaped him as an artist. From the nostalgic echoes of Santana to the underground beats of Ron Trent, each track is a piece of the puzzle that led to his highly anticipated debut album Coafeelia. It’s a deeply personal journey, and I’m thrilled to share it with you.

1. Fleetwood Mac – Dreams

From my parents record collection, this was one of the earliest “sounds” that was in their record shelves that I felt really drawn too.

2.Santana – Soul Sacrifice

Also from my parents record collection, this whole album had a style of music that made me want to dance. My dad would tell me how important this band was because they are from the same area where I grew up and currently live (San Francisco Bay Area).

3. CJ Bolland – Sugar Is Sweeter (Armand’s Drum and Bass Mix)

This was the first record that really marked my party/raving/dancing journey. I heard it at a neighborhood house party and it blew my mind.  This was the era of me finding my taste and love for house music.

4. Nuyorican Soul – It’s Alright, I Feel It

This album was a turning point in my passion for “finding music that reaches my soul”. An underground/indie documentary called “A Journey Through The Circle: Staring Circle Of Fire” used this album as the soundtrack for the incredible dance scenes featured throughout the film.  It will forever be one of maybe two important pieces of art that (the film and this album) that sent me on my journey as an artist.

5. Joe Claussell – Je Ka Jo

It’s hard to say if it was this record or Escravos De Jo, but it’s around this time that I heard this “style” of what friends on the west coast were telling me that this is “Soulful house from New York”.  It gave me the same feeling of dance as my Santana and WAR records.  I remember thinking, holy shit…there are “house records” that sounds like this????? I must find more!

6. Sean Escoffery – Days Like This (DJ Spinna remix)

This song marked the time when I was frequenting weekly and regular parties in San Francisco dancing till 5 am most weekend nights.  This was such a big tune, I would lose my voice singing it with my friends.

7. Tamara Wellons – Oh Well (Abicah Soul Remix)

At the time this was a “Local label” to the Bay Area. I remember I was having a shit day at work and went out to 119 Utah (Mighty) and this record was playing at like 1 or 2am and I began to cry.  The song really touched me for some reason.  It was the first time I got emotional like that on the dance floor. It was a crazy vulnerable feeling….felt good, not sure it took me so long to reach that point at a party, but glad I did!

8. Ron Trent – Black Magic Woman feat. Harry Dennis

This song was released as a part of a compilation (Word, Sound & Power) by Ron Trent (the PRESCRIPTION archive). I was already a huge Ron Trent fan, but never having heard this song until this compilation was released; I decided this is maybe one of my top 3 songs of ALL time.  Little did I know this record would end up sending my musical career into new places many years later. For another interview 🙂

9. Coflo – Stress Relief (Yoruba Soul mix)

My first breakout song that I achieved international reach. Also, my introduction to beginning a friendship with the pioneering artist Osunlade.

10. Rawb Boss – Coafeelia

The debut and title track of Rawb Boss’s first album. Coafeelia embodies the carefree experiment of music making that the alias of Rawb Boss embodies. From start to finish, the album provides a different side to the Coflo sound.

End conclusion.

Big thanks to Rawb Boss for sharing this incredible journey through sound with us. These 10 tracks reveal the heart and soul behind his music, giving us a glimpse of the genius that drives his debut album Coafeelia. Be sure to check out the album on Yoruba Records, and immerse yourself in the deep grooves and intergalactic vibes that only Rawb Boss can deliver. Until next time, keep dancing, keep discovering, and always stay soulful.
