Interesting news about one of our favorite and most well established labels in House Music. After an illustrious career at Defected Records, Simon Dunmore is stepping down as CEO. In a management buyout led by Wez Saunders, the label and promoter has been acquired for an undisclosed sum. With the help of Pinnacle Bank, Saunders has entered into a security agreement to fund the acquisition. Defected’s former Managing Director will continue to work with the company as CEO and has plans to expand the brand further.

Simon Dunmore

Simon Dunmore said:

“Wez Saunders has been my right-hand man for the last eight years,” Dunmore added, referring to his longtime collaborator. “Together, we’ve managed Defected into prolific eras, building an incredible team and a company with solid foundations as a result of its treasure chest of legends and publishing catalogs. These are exciting times, and I’ll continue to be involved in Defected’s initiatives, but now I’m glad to pass the baton to Wez, who together with our new partners will sail Defected into hitherto uncharted seas. A new era is beginning.”

Wez Saunders

Wez Saunders said:

“Defected is dedicated to upholding the standards of house music globally by supporting innovative artists and consistently servicing our community with quality recorded music, live events, digital marketing strategies, and more. I am grateful to Simon Dunmore for his ongoing mentorship and for trusting us to continue his legacy and evolve the next generation of Defected. We want to keep the culture and values that made this community of artists and fans so strong, while also moving the business forward into a new era. We will do this by working with our partners, associates, talent, and staff to achieve our goals.”

Defected’s most successful year yet!

Defected is having its most successful year yet and is expected to hit 2.4 billion streams and sell more than 600,000 tickets to 300 events in 2022, according to Music Week.

Dunmore launched Defected in 1999 and has released music by the likes of Masters At Work, Dennis Ferrer, Kevin Saunderson and Todd Terry. It’s grown into an event industry powerhouse with Ibiza residencies, festivals in Malta and Croatia and noteworthy other events around the world.
