SoundCloud’s first-ever Music Intelligence Report highlights electronic music’s dominant position in listener engagement.
SoundCloud’s first-ever Music Intelligence Report dropped today, and it confirms what our Dirty Disco community already knows, electronic music fans are the most engaged listeners worldwide. The data shows we spend 27% more time on the platform than fans of other genres and are 34% more likely to comment, share, and follow artists we discover.
“Electronic music has always been at the core of SoundCloud’s identity,” said SoundCloud CEO Michael Weissman. “Electronic music fans are not just passive listeners, they’re active participants in music discovery and community building.”
Emerging Electronic Subgenres to Watch in 2025
SoundCloud’s data highlights several electronic subgenres poised for breakthrough this year:
Vinahouse: High-energy sounds from Vietnam (134-138 BPM) with distinctive synthesizers
Neo-Ambient: Atmospheric productions with field recordings and minimalist structures
Drill House: UK drill rhythms fused with house music textures
These emerging genres reflect broader trends in electronic music production, with cross-cultural fusion and socially conscious themes gaining particular traction among younger listeners.
SoundCloud’s data reveals the fastest-growing electronic subgenres of early 2025.
Generation Z Discovers Electronic Music 8.4 Months Earlier
The report positions SoundCloud as the definitive platform for predicting electronic music trends, with data showing Gen Z discovers new electronic music an average of 8.4 months before it appears on mainstream platforms.
“For electronic music especially, our platform serves as both incubator and accelerator for emerging sounds,” said Alexandra Sifferlin, SoundCloud’s Head of Music Intelligence.
This early discovery pattern aligns perfectly with what we do at Dirty Disco – spotlighting emerging electronic music trends before they hit the mainstream. It’s why our listeners trust us to keep them ahead of the curve with fresh sounds and innovative artists.
Global Electronic Music Evolution
The report maps electronic music’s regional evolution:
Berlin: Leading in techno with increasing Latin American influence
London: Strong growth in breakbeat revival and jungle innovations
Tokyo: Fusion between traditional Japanese instruments and electronic production
Lagos: Emerging as an electronic-afrobeat crossover hub
These regional insights mirror many of the global influences we’ve been featuring in recent Dirty Disco episodes, particularly the Afro-house sounds that have been dominating our mixes.
