Every now and then, a track lands that feels like it was made for Dirty Disco. That’s exactly the case with Selflove by Jimena Angel, a Colombian artist whose journey is as rich and layered as her music. This latest release, out now on Partyfine, is more than a song, it’s a danceable mantra about the most important relationship we’ll ever have: the one with ourselves.

If you’ve been tuned into Latin sounds, chances are you’ve already come across Jimena’s work. Back in the ’90s, she made her mark in bands like Pepa Fresa, Sidestepper, and Alerta Kamarada. Since 2007, she’s been crafting her solo legacy, releasing three albums, earning a Latin Grammy nomination, and touring internationally at festivals like Glastonbury, Roskilde, Foreztival, and Guts Presents Around Pura Vida.

Jimena Angel drops Selflove with a Yuksek remix. Featured in Dirty Disco 604, this Latin nu-disco gem is a dancefloor-ready act of self-love.

With Selflove, she steps even deeper into her artistry. The track blends Colombian dance vibes with a pop sensibility, and it’s her most personal work yet. As Jimena says, producing it entirely on her own was “an act of self-love.” The message? We must first become our own mother, our own father, our own lover, before we can truly share love with others.

To top it all off, the remix treatment comes from none other than Yuksek, the multi-talented French producer and founder of Partyfine. Known for his genre-defying, hands-on approach, where the label handles recording, mixing, mastering, and distribution in-house, Yuksek infuses Selflove with boogie, house, and a twist of global groove, turning it into a full-blown late-night nu-disco stomper.

This one’s not only essential listening, it’s also featured in episode 604 of Dirty Disco.

What I am – Edie Brickell & New Bohemians

When I started singing in a rock band called PEPA FRESA, I used to perform this cover with them, and I truly loved the song! It marked the beginning of my deep dive into studying a variety of musical genres like rock, funk, reggae, and Colombian folklore. It was such a rich and inspiring time in my life.

Hay un daño en el baño – Bloque de Busqueda

The band Bloque de Busqueda, formed by my two masters Teto Ocampo and Ivan Benavides was very important for all the emerging musicians of the late 90’s, like me, and this song was their anthem.

Kinky Reggae (1991) – Bob Marley and The Wailers – Talking Blues album

When PEPA FRESA ended, I got really into reggae, especially Bob Marley, and bought the Talking Blues album from 1991. It was a live album with an amazing version of “Kinky Reggae” and incredible guitars. I’ve always loved dub and its effects, but the guitars here were dry, just a cool wah-wah and Al Anderson’s unique playing. I loved it, studied it deeply, and eventually learned to play those parts with my reggae band at the time, which was called REGADERA.

Le Freak – Chic

As well as diving into reggae, I went crazy with disco and its guitars, and obviously Le freak by Chic, was an important guitar to learn to play and enjoy.

Más Papaya – Sidestepper

In 2000 I was the backing singer of the British-Colombian band SIDESTEPPER and for the first time I toured Europe to play at festivals like Glastonbury and Roskilde…. Since then, I decided that one day I would go back to these places with my own music, and today it’s happening… so it was a key period in my life.

Alegría – Batida

I remember I was on the dance floor while a DJ friend of mine was playing this track, and I instantly went to ask him what kind of music it was that I had never heard before… he told me Afro-hose. From that moment a very deep musical quest began in my life and I think it’s an important part of who I am now.

Disco Dancer – Kiki Gyan

Studying the guitar, it has always been a source of inspiration, and this track definitely fascinated me since I heard it for the first time, and of course it was the reason to study it.

Kenke Corner – Guts

I loved everything about this track… the African chorus that repeats up and down, the beats, the winds, the guitars… everything! And the video was amazing too.

Pra Ver Você Sambar – YUKSEK remix

It was hard to pick just one from the 18 favorite tracks I have from YUKSEK, both his originals and remixes. But this one stands out. The sound, melody, harmony, and unique style are simply incredible. I love it, and I never get tired of listening to it.

Selflove – Jimena Angel

With this song, along with TELEPATIA and FUEGO (still unreleased and part of my next album), I feel I’ve fully graduated as a music producer. I had always co-produced with others, but I finished these on my own. It’s also beautiful that it’s called SELFLOVE, because believing in myself and giving it a try as a producer was a true act of self-love. Plus, YUKSEK made an amazing club mix that I absolutely love!

Conclusion

Big thank you to Jimena Angel for taking us through her story, her musical roots, and the mantra that powers Selflove. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out both versions, the original and the wild Yuksek remix, out now on Partyfine.

This isn’t just a track, it’s a groove-powered affirmation wrapped in Colombian magic. And trust me, you’ll hear it loud and proud in episode 604 of Dirty Disco. Until then: love yourself, dance more, and stay curious.💚 Stream Selflove now on all platforms and let it soundtrack your journey toward… well, you.
