Female artists are claiming their own place in the diverse music landscape more than ever, both directly on stage as well as more and more behind the DJ booth. Alongside established names like Jayda G, the name TSHA is popping up more and more in hot playlists and line-ups.
TSHA
London’s TSHA, including fellow singers Theisa Matthews, is one of the younger mixing talents whose first EPs Moonlight and Flowers have already been firmly tipped by Annie Mac, Gorillaz and “Ninja Tune” label mate Bonobo. Great references for an artist whose debut album has yet to be released.
We certainly don’t have to wait long for it, because on October 7 she will finally release her first album, Capricorn Sun. It will also feature her latest single “Dancing in the Shadows,” with a feature by England’s Clementine Douglas.
Dancing in the Shadows.
TSHA calls her latest single a personal favorite on Instagram, and it doesn’t take long for us to figure out exactly why that is. TSHA herself provides “Dancing in the Shadows” with a punchy house beat right away, but with Clementine Douglas’ soft vocals, it quickly takes on a nice emotional charge. The song then builds to a lightening mix that is vaguely reminiscent of The xx with the guitar strumming in the beginning. In any case, TSHA does keep the rollercoaster of emotions alive and showcased from different angles, from a distorted electro interlude to a euphoric and punchy synth finale that pulls Douglas’ vocals to a fine climax.
TSHA has certainly secured a worthy feature with Clementine Douglas for its latest single, on which both get a chance to shine. TSHA’s debut album Capricorn Sun will be released on October 7 via Ninja Tune and will feature thirteen tracks.
