When a Spurs fan and a Gooner link up in a North London boozer over three pints of Red Stripe, you’d usually expect football banter, not a UK house sermon. But that’s exactly what happened when producer Dan The Drum approached legendary London DJ and promoter Stuart Patterson with an idea: a track that pays homage to the early days of the UK house scene.
At first, Stu gave it a polite pass. But the idea lingered. Dan’s concept, having Stuart narrate his journey through the UK house underground, resonated. Stu had been quietly thinking about something similar for a while: a proper roll call for the pioneers and forgotten names that built the scene from the ground up.
So with a mic on, the Red Stripe flowing, and memories rising to the surface, Stu began to tell his story. Dan captured it all, raw, real, and full of heart. They knew they needed more than just names and beats, though. Enter Carmy Love from the London House Choir, who stepped in to reimagine a classic house hook. Add some slick production touches from Dan and sublime keys from Darren Morris, and suddenly, the UK had its own sermon to stand tall next to the great US house fables.
With remixes from the mighty X-Press 2 and Ashley Beedle, plus Jo Wallace and Darren Morris under their North Street West moniker, this release is pure gold for any DJ with taste.
In this Track Talk, Dan and Stu each share five tracks that influenced UK House Sermon, tunes that bring the history, emotion, and soul behind this powerful collaboration.

Naaem Johnson / Zanzibar Days
When Dan approached me about doing a “cap doffing” track for the UK he asked me for some reference tracks. This is one that tells a stateside story so was good for some anchor points.
Backroom Productions / Definition of a Track.
One from the early days, with an underground feel, going through the tracks was sometimes just about evoking memories of the past when I was writing the lyrics. This one certainly did that.
Krewcial Roll / Call
We wanted to do a roll call but with feeling and not just dropping names. This track was a good reference, but we felt the need to give ours more “meat on the bone”. When Dan and I recorded the vocals, once the roll call was done, Dan suggested we just leave the mic running, have a beer and chat. That’s where his brilliance came in, we ended up having so many genuine stories to weave into the roll call. Well done Dan!
Rick Homes / Remember to Remember
Another direct track for reference. It had the elements I liked for a roll call track, it had the stories and names together with a nice female overlay. Also during us doing this, Roy Ayers sadly passed away so is a “Give Thanks” To Roy.
Mass Order / Take Me Away
This was the first track I sent to Dan as reference and it ending up playing a massive part for us. Killer cut.

Ashley Beedle and Rob Gallagher / Ghost Dancers
Having always being a massive Galliano fan they are deeply intrenched in my musical psyche. Robs voice is always real and this is what I had in my head for our track. At first Stu was slightly reluctant to do the vocals. Rob would have been my next stop.
Weak Become Heroes / The Streets (Ashley Beedle Remix)
One of my favourites ever lines in a track, it really resonates with me being out raving over the years. “Known you all my life. Don’t know your name. You’re names European Bob…Sorted”
We always set out to get a genuine feel of the UK and this track certainly has a UK-ness to it
Mass Order / Take Me Away
Once I had gone to Stu and he agreed to do the track with me, I asked him for some reference tracks. This one hit the spot as we took one line from this as a nod to the yanks and got Carmy to redo it in her own way as our hook line – “Lets give thanks to the ones that started it all”.
On and One / Jess Saunders
I think this one speaks for itself, probably at the base of the evolutionary house music tree.
Touch Me / Fonda Rae
To me this track – like Jess Saunders – has fledgling touches of what was coming. Also, I remember hearing Stu play this on a night with Trouble and it just evokes memories of the future when I was in the past, if that makes sense? Haha
Conclusion & Thank you!
Massive thanks to Dan The Drum and Stuart Patterson for taking us deep into their musical DNA, and for giving UK house a proper sermon it can call its own.
